Time to put on the Decals.

Use glue STICK - NOT glue gun for this step. You want to have smooth stickers. Hot GLue will cause bumps under the paper.

Apply some glue to the FRONT of the control panel.

Then apply some more glue to the posterboard in an up and down motion.

Be carefull to NOT press down TOO hard. you don't want to tear a hole in the posterboard.

If you printed your decals on stiker sheets, carefully peel back the corner until the backing is completely peeled away.

July 14, 2008

Carefully align the bottom front of the decal to the front corner of the control panel.

July 14, 2008

Use your Index finger to press along the front decal from side to side giving you a nice clean contact.

July 14, 2008

Now using your thumb (or index finger) start at the base and work your way UP to the TOP..

Apply pressure ONLY to the CENTER of the control panel for now in order to avoid bubbles or folds in the decal.

July 14, 2008

Once the center is secure, gently press OUTWARD from the center bottom all the way to the TOP. First the left side, then the right side.

Whatever little excess sticks out at the top, use your Xacto blade to trim it off.

Now you want to repeat that main console FIVE more times. Then make TWO more that will be the bookends. What this means is that one will have the support flush against the RIGHT and the other will be flush against the LEFT.

See the blue arrows to better understand.

So you now have your SIX remaining control panels assembled. Time for some decals...

July 14, 2008

Now the order that you lay them next to each other is VERY important if you want to be MOVIE accurate.

Look at these consoles and compare them with your order.

To make R2-D2's commlink port, a foamcore is TOO thick so you need to slice it's thickness in HALF.

July 14, 2008

Take the teeny tiny Port decal and stick it to your half thick foamcore piece.

Now cut around it and you will have a thumbtack head size data link.
