If you look closely at movie stills with Luke training,
you will notice there are barrels in the background.
I happened to see a good scaled bubble (in those
25 cent machines at the drug store exits) and thought
this would be a great start to the sculpture. |

I flattened some Super Sculpey and then cut out some
strips and circular shapes. |
|
 |
 |

The strips wrap around the bubbles and the circles
act as a base and lid.
Once in place I used my Heat Gun to harden the sculpey
waving the gun back and forth to not make the plastic
melt. |

I then proceeded to fill in the gaps with more Super
Sculpey. Covering the entire bubble. I rolled some
tiny snakes and wrapped them around the lids to make
a cap detail. |

A basic coat of paint once the Sculpey was hardened
starts to give a finished look.
But remember this is Star Wars and things are all
yucky and NOT CLEAN :) ... |

... So I added some weathering with a darker shade
and made it drip down the sides. Then take a Kleenex
and tap i over the paint.
This will stain the barrel and give it that old look.
Repeat the technique until you are satisfied with
the end result. R2 shows us the scale of the barrels. |

Princess Leia need to sit as well when consoling
Luke about Obi-Wan's death.
Lucky for us it is a simple cushion chair. You need
just these 3 pieces. Again I used a pen cap for the
chair's tubing. |
|
 |
 |
|
December 30, 2001
I just had to squish the pen cap into the 2 Sculpey
pieces and voila, Leia's cushion is complete. Can
it get any easier then that? LOL |

Just a little paint completes the look and another
piece of furniture is ready for storage. |

This detail was easy. I got some 1 inch cubes at
the arts store, 25 cents each, and I just attached
some tiny pieces of foamcore.
Not as fancy as Sculpy but an easy way to make boxes. |

A quick 2 tone paint job helps give it a cool
look.
I did not weather these because they are clean
in the movie reference pictures. You can weather
them if you don't like the clean look. |

For the last 2 "boxes" I wanted to
make exact copies of what is in the picture
so I decided to go with Super Sculpey.
To save on money, I started with a simple rectangular
shape in Sculpey (that's why it is white, Super
Sculpey is tan color) and cured it in the oven. |

Now switching to Super Sculpey (you can add
more details then the softer Sculpey) I used
my photos to add the proper ridges and details
to the boxes. |

Using the paint scheme from the movie, I know
have 2 more boxes to place next to the Chess
bench. |

Look what I found!!! I went to the dollar store
and got this set of doll furniture.
The plastic was pink but once painted, it looks
really cool and has the professional tooled
look that is hard to get with hand sculpting.
Plus I paid only 1 dollar!!!! you can't beat
that :) |

Now take your accessories and place them around
the Falcon room.
Looks like the movie set :) |
