Time to start the Chess Table. The hasbro version
that comes with Chewbacca Dejarik figure is WAY too
small. The actual table is 2/3 bigger. So I decided
to make my own.
Let's start with a 2 inch pizza shape piece of Super
Sculpey. |
|
 |
I heated this
in the oven for 15 minutes to make sure it will not lose
it's shape during detailing of the table. |

I rolled a snake of Super Sculpey... |

...and wrapped it around the 2 inch base. This will
be the "inner" rounded table top. |

I used my tool to blend the gap between the 2 pieces
and added a small groove detail on each side of the
table piece.
I might remove this later and replace it with decals.
I am not sure yet. |

On the underside, I created small grooves at .05cm
intervals.
You can see this detail in the actual table and makes
the custom look more professional. Besides, it only
took 10 minutes :)
Now time to bake the sculpt another 15 minutes to
prevent bruising and deformations during the next
step. |

Roll a piece of Super Sculpey in the shape of a pizza
and place it on top of the table.
Wrap it around the edges and under the table. Then
use an Xacto knife and make 4 marks like on a clock,
12, 3, 6 and 9.
|
|
 |
Remove 2 pieces
12 to 3 oclock and 6 to 9 oclock without touching the center.
This is the shape you want to obtain. |

Here you see how the bottom part of the table is
exposed.
I rolled a fat snake and cut it to make the tables
foot. Time to bake another 15 minutes. |

I added tiny litle buttons to both sides of the chess
table. Take your time because 3 out of 4 times, they
will pop off during sculpting because they are so
tiny and delicate. |

I mixed a silver latex with a light greyish blue. |

Once dried, I painted the details, black dots controls
and the chess top pattern. Once the paint was dried,
I applied a coat of gloss to protect and give it a
metalic shine. |

Here is a comparison of my custom table and Hasbro's
version that came with Dejarik Chewbacca.
It's easy to see the Hasbro table was way too small. |

One thing good about the Hasbro accessory was the
chess pieces.
I used my Xacto knife to remove the pieces from their
table and used 1 drop of Krazy Glue to fix them on
my table top.
Still missing pawns but at this scale, I don't even
dare try amking them. This is cool enough :) |
