Compared to palpatine's Throne Chair, This Sofa is
a piece of cake :)
All you need are the following pieces of foamcore
and some drinking straws. The center pieces are 8cm
X 6cm rectangles with one corner rounded out. |

Take your 1cm wide strip and glue it to the 8cm X
6cm rectangles. Make sure to leave a very small edge
to add details. See where the red arrows point to
in the pictures. |

Now use your Hot Glue Gun to attach the second rectangle
to the 1cm strip. Make sure to align both rectangles
evenly as this will be your sofa's armrests. |

Now take the 12.5 cm X 5cm rectangle and attach that
to the 1.5cm X 12.5cm strip. This is the back support
of the sofa and will not be visible. It is mainly
for structure support. |

Use your Hot Glue Gun again to attach the back support
to one of the arm rests. Make sure to leave 1cm space
from the rear of the arm support. |

Now repeat the procedure for the other arm rest.
Make sure that all 3 pieces are even. |

Now take your 5cmX12.5cm rectangle and attach it
1.5cm from the floor. This is a good height for figures
to sit. If it looks too low, don't worry we have some
straws to place later. |
September 22, 2002
Trace the arm rest shape onto foamcore and reduce
1cm from the top edges and cut. |
September 22, 2002
Now glue your piece onto the outer side of the armrest.
Align the piece with the bottom rear of the chair.
Now we are almost done :) |

Are you ready for the easiest and most fun part.
Go to McDonalds, eat a Big Mac and bring home about
12 straws :) Place the straws on top of the sitting
surface starting in the back row moving towards the
front. Use some drops of Hot Glue to keep them in
place. |
September 22, 2002
Now do the same for the back support. Start attaching
the straws from bottom and move up. When you reach
the ends of the bases, stop. It's good if the straws
stick out just a bit past the foamcore. |

These sofas have lights on either side. Let's start
with the supports. Make a hole in the arm rest with
a pin and then make it wider with a pen or pencil. |

You should now be able to stick a straw into the
hole. If the straw doesn't fit in, keep poking the
hole until it gets wide enough. Stick the straw in
and let it touch the floor the cut at 1cm from base. |

Next step I did was fill the straw with some Super
Sculpey. Try and stick about 1.5cm deep. I then stuck
in a toothpick into the Super Sculpey and then used
my Heat Gun to harden the Super Sculpey to make sure
the toothpick will stay in place when I put the lamp
on top. |

Now I put the straws back in place and painted them
with a white base. Seems like plastic straws don't
like paint much and need more then 1 coat to hide
their original color. |
