DEATH STAR CONFERENCE ROOM

October 10, 2004

Here we go ... :) After 1 year it's about time to get back into Diorama construction don't you think?

I originally started this scene before the Palpatine Arrival but got sidetracked when the Shuttle was about to hit store shelves. So now is a good time to get back to the Death Star Conference Room...

October 10, 2004

Let's start with the floor base of the room. It is a round shape with a flat short extrusion which exits to a Death Star Hallway.

Start with a long scrap piece of foamcore and stick a thumbtack in one end and then measure 31cm and 33 cm and poke holes so that your pencil can fit to the other side.

October 10, 2004

Now stick the Thumbtack into your floor piece and with the pencil, go around in a circle. Make sure the Thumbtack doesn't pop out. That could result in an uneven circle.

Draw the outer circle (33cm) and then change the pencil's place to draw the inner circle (31cm).

At one end of the room is a straight section where the main doors are located to enter the room.

This wall connects with 2 wall pieces at 90 degrees as you can see with the 2 temporary units in the photo.

Here I will try and explain better with color coding. The Yellow dot is the Center where the Thumbtack was inserted during the pencil marking.

The Green line is a line down from the center to the extremity of the outer circle. This line is 28cm long. More on that later...

The red line is 90 degrees of the green line.

Each side measures 20.5cm. for a total length of 41cm. Finally the blue line is 90 degrees of the red line and you go up 5 cm which should connect with the inner circle line. So let's get into the steps...

October 10, 2004

From the center of the circle, measure 28cm. This is the green line in photo 005.

It doesn't matter where you draw the line in the circle. It is the angles at the end of this line that will cut the circle shape into the room floor.

October 10, 2004

Now that the line is drawn, you must draw a line that is a perfect 90 degrees of the green line. The red line should expand 20.5cm on each side for a total of 41cm.

Ignore the hole in the foamcore on the left. That isn't a cut created for the floor. It was there in my piece from the beginning since I am not using a brand new piece of foamcore. Pretend it's all white :P

October 10, 2004

Ok, so now that your red line is drawn, measure 20.5cm from the green line and make a mark with your pencil.

October 10, 2004

Now measure another perfect 90 degrees from the end of the red line going up towards the center.

The blue dots represent the line you will draw after marking the 90 degrees with your pencil.

The green arrow is the actual length you will draw with your ruler...5cm to be precise. This will connect with the inner circle.

The Yellow arrow points to the outer circle where you will make the cut later on.

So now it is time to cut the floor piece. Make sure to use a new sharp blade, and WATCH YOUR FINGERS !!! :)

You will be cutting along the red line, the green line (stop at the outer circle) and the outer circle represented here by the yellow color.
